The Buccaneer Commission is a non profit group dedicated to raising money for area youth scholarships. The Commission has committed to over $500,000 in scholarship dollars to area youth.

2012 Scholarships Opportunities:

Buc Days Queens & Kings Contestants
Qualified candidates will participate in the Miss Buc Days and the Buc Days King competitions. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in the opening of Buc Days, including the "Capturing and Dunking of the Mayor" event, attending the Buc Days PRCA Rodeo, the Buc Days Coors Light BBQ Cook off and the Buc Days IBC Bank Junior Parade as well as other events.

Calf Scramble Winners
Each Buc Days Miller Lite PRCA Rodeo performance contains the Calf Scramble - sponsored by Allied Waste. 24 participants that retrieve a calf from the arena during this event wins a $100 certificate good towards a Junior Livestock Show project.

Math & Science Students
Apply for $2,500 towards your first semester of school at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi as a Mathematics, Physics or Engineering Major! Maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0 for renewal consideration. The criteria for this scholarship include a financial aid review from the University. Applications can be found at area High School Counselor offices or by contacting Misty Martinez at Texas A&M University, 361-825-2522.

Del Mar Music Students
An endowment is established at Del Mar College for their music department. The amount of scholarship varies annually. To apply for this scholarship, please contact Del Mar College at 361-698-1317.

Rodeo Scholarship
The Buccaneer Commission will award one local youth a $4,000, 4 year rodeo scholarship to attend Sul Ross State University to be part of their rodeo team.

Process Technologies
Four process technologies scholarships to Del Mar College will be awarded to students interested in building a career in one of the Process Technology trades. To apply for this scholarship, contact Del Mar College at 361-698-1317.
