Buc Days Scholarship Dinner presented by Reliant Energy
The 2011 event offered a wide variety of entertainment and attracted 200,000+ people over the month long run. And in addition to those events, we added a "Buc Days Scholarship Dinner". This inaugural event enabled us to commit scholarships to more students than ever before, and our goal is to keep this trend moving up in the coming years.
The dinner featured the success story of our 2003 Miss Buc Days, Wanda Gonzalez. I don't think there was a dry eye in the crowd of about 280 people after she spoke about her trek from homelessness to being the first to graduate high school in her family and then attend college. Rebecca Frederickson, the Miller High School Counselor that became Wanda's second family, then took the stage and spoke of the importance of a scholarship. "A scholarship, no matter what the amount, gives the recipient the courage to believe in their dreams and changes them forever."
Our 2012 Scholarship Dinner will feature Mr. William E. (Bill) Greehey, the Chairman of the Board of NuStar Energy L.P. and NuStar GP Holdings, LLC. Mr. Greehey has received many awards in recognition of his commitment to service. He supports children's health and well-being efforts, education and business and community development programs. We are thrilled to have him as our Keynote Speaker.
It is our sponsors that allow Buc Days to help make a difference to students in South Texas. Thank you for your consideration to purchase a table at our 2012 event.
